About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director for Cemetery Operations and Community Engagement. The successful candidate will be the primary public-facing leader, responsible for guiding families through all decision-making processes with empathy and professionalism. This role involves overseeing all aspects of burials, plot sales, and related services, as well as supervising the long-term planning and development of the cemetery grounds. The Executive Director will also manage a full- and part-time staff, work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure the organization's fiscal health, and lead strategic conversations for long-term growth and cultural programming. Applicants for the Executive Director position should have a background in senior management, with a preference for experience in the death care industry, hospice, health, or elder care settings. The role requires the ability to support families during times of grief, oversee complex budgets, and effectively manage a team, including unionized employees. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader with excellent communication skills, a collaborative work style, and a vision for engaging the public in the history and preservation of the cemetery. Emotional intelligence, a winning personality, and the ability to build strong relationships with various stakeholders are essential. The Executive Director will also be involved in strategic planning, and must have a strong sense of how historic sites can remain relevant and dynamic for current and future audiences.
