Primate Animal Care Technician
Medix is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Technician for a 2-3 month contract-to-hire opportunity. In this role, you will be a crucial member of an essential services team, providing high-quality care to large research animals, specifically nonhuman primates (NHP). This position is perfect for someone with a passion for animal welfare who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
ResponsibilitiesAnimal Husbandry: Provide essential care for USDA-covered nonhuman primate species, including cleaning enclosures, supplying food, and ensuring access to fresh water. You will also monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any changes and implementing prescribed treatments under veterinary guidance.
Facility Management: Maintain a clean and sanitized facility by managing inventory of cleaning supplies, PPE, and dietary supplements. You'll assist with receiving new animal shipments and ensure all data is accurately entered into electronic management systems.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team of technicians, floor leaders, and veterinary staff to enhance animal care practices and ensure compliance with all regulations.
Basic knowledge of the biology and behavior of laboratory animal species is preferred.
Prior experience in an animal environment such as a zoo, shelter, or even a retail pet store (e.g., PetSmart, Petco) is a significant plus.
Flexibility to work periodic weekends, holidays, and in emergency situations.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Weekend Work: This position requires availability to work every third Saturday of the month, with overtime pay provided for weekend shifts.
