Long Island Select Healthcare Inc. (LISH) is a comprehensive network of community health centers. We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides Article 16 and 28 clinic services at 8 locations across Suffolk County, New York. We are a multi-specialty healthcare provider caring for our community through Primary and Specialty Medical Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, Audiology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. We currently provide care to over 7,000 patients and have an annual operating revenue of $22m.

About the Role:

As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive mental health care to patients across various age groups. Your primary responsibility will be to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with psychiatric disorders, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address both the psychological and physical aspects of mental health. Additionally, you will educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options, fostering a supportive environment for recovery. Ultimately, your work will contribute to improving the overall mental well-being of the community and enhancing the quality of life for those you serve.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric-Mental Health.
  • Current and valid Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • At least two years of clinical experience in a psychiatric setting.
  • Able to provide services to individuals across their lifespan.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations and various age groups.
  • Familiarity with telehealth practices and technology.
  • Additional certifications in specialized areas of mental health, such as substance abuse or trauma-informed care.
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments to determine patient needs.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring patient responses and adjusting treatment as necessary.
  • Provide psychotherapy and counseling to individuals, families, and groups to support mental health recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

The required skills for this role include strong clinical assessment abilities, which are essential for accurately diagnosing mental health conditions. Effective communication skills are vital for building rapport with patients and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Problem-solving skills will be utilized daily to develop and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and feedback. Additionally, empathy and active listening are crucial in providing compassionate care and support to patients and their families. Preferred skills, such as knowledge of telehealth technology, will enhance your ability to reach and assist patients in various settings, ensuring accessibility to mental health services.
