The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi, home to one of only eight federally funded Chinese Flagship Programs in the United States, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chinese, beginning in Fall 2026. The Chinese Flagship Program aims to cultivate ACTFL superior-level Chinese proficiency while enabling students to pursue expertise in any major of their choice. We seek a candidate who can teach all levels of Chinese language as well as disciplinary courses in their area of specialization in the Ph.D. program of Second Language Studies. Other duties include supervising graduate students and contributing meaningfully to Chinese program events.

Assignment Type: Tenure Track
Education: Ph.D. in Chinese Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field by August 2026.
Language: Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English.
Experience: Demonstrated record or strong potential for excellence in scholarship.
Experience: Experience teaching Chinese language and disciplinary courses in both Chinese and English.

The Department of Modern Languages is a large and diverse unit with over sixty faculty members and over fifty graduate students from around the world and who teach thirteen languages and linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels ().
